One day, a 13-year-old boy from Delft, one of the poorest communities in Cape Town, South Africa, walked two miles on his own to save his beloved puppy.
He noticed that his pup had stopped eating and was suffering from bloody diarrhea. Determined to find help, he set out on foot in search of someone who could save her.
The boy walked two miles into the city to reach an animal rescue organization dedicated to caring for local dogs and cats.
A staff member from the rescue group, Stöckigt, shared the boy’s heartbreaking story:
“She was extremely thin, and the boy told us he didn’t have enough money to buy food for her. We assured him that we would do everything we could to save her life and find her a loving home that could properly care for her. We thanked him for bringing her to us.”
It was later confirmed that the puppy, named Nanuk, was suffering from a deadly illness called parvovirus, and without treatment, she wouldn’t have survived.
To lift Nanuk’s spirits during her recovery, she received regular visits from foster kittens at the shelter.
