Kristin Waner, a talented photographer from Odessa, Texas, specializing in newborn, birth, and maternity photography, had the privilege of capturing a truly unique birth session. This time, she witnessed the incredible bond between Brooke Ellington and her special birth companion—a devoted Corgi named Ranger.
Brooke’s family holds a special place in Kristin’s heart, as this wasn’t the first time she had the honor of documenting Brooke’s journey through labor and childbirth. During the birth of her first child, Boyd, Brooke’s loyal Corgi, Ryder, acted as her comforting companion. Now, with the arrival of her third child, Berkeley, it was Ranger’s turn to step up and offer support.
Throughout the challenging moments of labor, Kristin watched firsthand as Ranger remained faithfully by Brooke’s side. Just like Ryder had done before, Ranger provided unwavering comfort by allowing Brooke to hug and kiss him, offering a calming presence during each contraction. From the bed to the birthing tub, Ranger never left her side, ensuring she felt supported every step of the way. Finally, when his new human sister arrived, he stood by proudly, embracing his role as the family’s loyal protector.

A Tradition of Love and Support
Kristin’s first experience witnessing a doula dog was with Ryder, Brooke’s first Corgi. Ryder was there for Brooke when she welcomed her second child, Boyd, offering loving cuddles and a warm presence to ease her pain.
Sadly, Ryder passed away before Brooke gave birth to her third child, Berkeley. However, this time, another affectionate Corgi, Ranger, stepped in to continue the tradition of love and support.
From the very beginning, Ranger’s excitement was evident. He was part of the welcoming party when Kristin arrived, and as soon as Brooke’s labor started, he rushed to her side, never leaving her alone.
Knowing how precious these moments were, Kristin ensured that none of them were missed, capturing every touching detail through her lens.
Whenever Ranger sensed that Brooke was in intense pain, he would run to her, offering silent reassurance. While Brooke’s husband and her doula, Jenny, closely monitored her progress, Ranger knew that a simple doggy kiss could help ease the tension in the room. He remained by her side through it all, constantly checking to make sure both mom and baby were safe.
Kristin noted that this birth was especially difficult for Brooke compared to the last time, but having Ranger there made the experience a little more bearable. His presence was a source of love and comfort, offering unspoken encouragement through each contraction.
The look in Ranger’s eyes said it all—pure excitement and devotion as he met his new baby sister. He refused to let her out of his sight, proving that his protective instincts were already in full effect.
