Pebbles, the beloved Toy Fox Terrier and world’s oldest dog, has passed away just five months before her 23rd birthday.
Guinness World Records announced her passing, stating that Pebbles died of natural causes at her home in South Carolina. She spent her final moments surrounded by love, comforted by her devoted owners, Bobby and Julie Gregory.
Born on March 28, 2000, Pebbles’ record-breaking age was discovered in an unexpected way. When news broke that a Chihuahua named TobyKeith had been crowned the world’s oldest dog, Bobby and Julie realized their own cherished pet had actually surpassed that milestone.
“Bobby was sitting on the couch when friends and family started texting and calling about a story they heard of a 21-year-old dog getting the record,” Julie recalled in a statement to Guinness World Records. “That’s when we decided to apply after seeing TobyKeith’s story everywhere.”
Throughout her long life, Pebbles brought endless joy to her family. She even had a loving companion, Rocky, with whom she raised 32 puppies across three litters. Rocky passed away in 2017 at the age of 16, but Pebbles continued to thrive, bringing happiness to those around her.
She spent most of her years in Taylors, South Carolina, where she enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. Pebbles had a deep love for country music, trying new foods, and being showered with affection.
“She wasn’t just a pet—she had her own personality and unique way of being,” her owners shared. “Having her in our lives was a true privilege.”
News of Pebbles’ passing touched the hearts of many, with fans expressing their condolences on social media. Messages of love and remembrance flooded Twitter, with many simply saying, “RIP Pebbles.”
Though she is gone, Pebbles leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and cherished memories. She was more than just a record-breaking dog—she was a faithful companion who lived a life full of happiness and devotion.
