In July 2019, a stray shepherd mix and her 11 newborn puppies arrived at Dallas Animal Services.

Among the litter, one puppy stood out due to a unique marking resembling a handlebar mustache. This distinctive feature quickly captured the attention of shelter staff and the public alike.

Recognizing the challenges of caring for a large litter in a high-intake shelter environment, Dallas Animal Services collaborated with Hearts & Bones Rescue to place the family in foster care. The mustachioed puppy, affectionately named Salvador Dolly, became an internet sensation, leading to a surge in adoption applications.

Salvador Dolly’s unique appearance drew comparisons to the famous painter Salvador Dalí, known for his iconic mustache. This resemblance further endeared her to the public, highlighting the charm and individuality of rescue animals.

The heartwarming story of Salvador Dolly underscores the importance of animal rescue organizations and the impact of fostering and adoption in providing homeless animals with loving homes.
