In a touching turn of events, the Instituto Amor em Patas (IAPA) recently encountered a pregnant dog abandoned at their gate. Nine weeks along and in urgent need of care, the mama dog, later named Natajuli, was weak, unable to stand, and overwhelmed by fear. Her vulnerable state deeply moved the compassionate volunteers, who immediately took her under their care, offering her the support and comfort she desperately needed.
Natajuli’s previous owner had left her behind, likely fearful of the challenges that came with her impending motherhood. At first, her fear caused her to be wary and protective, instinctively shielding herself and her unborn puppies from unfamiliar faces. However, with patience and kindness, she slowly began to trust the people who had stepped in to help her.
One volunteer recalled the moment they first saw Natajuli, saying, “Look at her belly—it may hold 13 or 14 precious lives. We are planning to schedule her tests for tomorrow since she is quite weak.” The team was determined to ensure her safety and well-being.
As anticipation grew, the volunteers arranged for an ultrasound to monitor Natajuli’s condition and prepare for a safe delivery. Despite her fragile state, she remained under their watchful care, and then the long-awaited moment arrived—Natajuli gave birth to her first puppy, a lively little boy.
But the surprises didn’t stop there. One by one, Natajuli welcomed a total of 14 adorable puppies into the world. The sight of the new mother with her tiny, wriggling babies filled the volunteers with a mix of overwhelming joy and deep responsibility.
Following the birth, Natajuli and her puppies were taken to the vet for check-ups, ultrasounds, and blood tests to ensure their health. The relief was evident when Natajuli, though exhausted, was declared strong and well. Her puppies, each plump and healthy, were a testament to the love and dedication poured into their care.
One volunteer shared their heartfelt reaction: “I was nearly brought to tears when I saw Natajuli’s smile. And her puppies are just too adorable—I can’t help but want to shower them with love.”
Now, as this inspiring journey continues, the volunteers face the joyful task of naming Natajuli’s 14 little miracles. They invite everyone who has followed this incredible story to suggest meaningful names—ones that will forever be part of this tale of resilience, love, and unwavering compassion.
