Griffon, a lovable stray puppy, had spent so much time surviving on the streets that he had almost lost hope of ever finding a family.
But one fateful day, his luck changed.
His wandering led him to an unexpected place—a foreign naval base—where he found himself in the caring arms of a man who would change his life forever.
According to a Facebook post by Paws of War, a nonprofit that trains service dogs for professionals and first responders, “A U.S. Naval Commander spotted the tiny pup and immediately realized he wouldn’t last long on his own in such a dangerous environment.”
Without hesitation, the commander picked up the little dog, recalling his unit’s motto: ‘Those who show up alive, leave alive.’ At that moment, he knew the same principle had to apply to this helpless puppy as well.
News of Griffon’s arrival quickly spread throughout the base, and soon, everyone was eager to meet him.
“As the commander took Griffon under his care, the bond between them grew stronger, and the puppy became his loyal shadow,” the post continued.
Griffon quickly became part of the family, bringing joy to everyone who crossed his path.
Determined to give him a forever home, the commander made the heartfelt decision to adopt Griffon and bring him back with him to the United States when his deployment ends.
Paws of War spokesman Gary Baumann assured reporters that Griffon and his hero will soon be reunited.
“Griffon is an incredible pup,” Baumann told The Dodo. “He adores people and other dogs and has a big appetite. He’s doing wonderfully.”
“We’re looking forward to their reunion soon,” Baumann added. “The commander, who is from Maryland, has a wife and children waiting to welcome Griffon home.”
