Today is my birthday, and as I celebrate the gift of life, I am also blessed to have brought beautiful children into the world. I eagerly look forward to receiving heartfelt blessings on this special day.
This story introduces Mam Nata, a courageous dog whose journey from abandonment to motherhood is both heartbreaking and inspiring. On Christmas Eve, Mam Nata was left behind by her previous owner while she was eight weeks pregnant, facing the harsh reality of survival on her own.
The compassionate team at Instituto Amor em Patas (IAPA) found Nata in a vulnerable state—weak, frightened, and struggling to stand. Her former owner, overwhelmed by the impending birth of her puppies, had abandoned her. Understandably, Nata was protective of her unborn babies, making it difficult for the volunteers to approach her at first.
With patience and kindness, the shelter staff gradually gained Nata’s trust. She began to lower her defenses, realizing she was finally safe. Volunteers noticed her large belly, estimating she could be carrying 13 or 14 puppies. To ensure her well-being, they scheduled medical tests to provide the necessary care for Nata and her unborn litter.
Back at the shelter, Nata was given a secure and nurturing space to prepare for the birth. When the time came, she successfully delivered a healthy baby boy. But the surprises didn’t end there—Nata gave birth to an incredible total of 14 healthy, adorable puppies. The joy and relief among the shelter team were overwhelming as they witnessed this miracle of life.
Following the birth, Nata and her puppies underwent thorough health check-ups, including ultrasounds and blood tests. Nata was tired but happy, and her puppies were thriving—plump, active, and full of energy.
