Zach Hearn thought his family was complete, but his two dogs, Tang and Cream, had other ideas.
Earlier this month, while out for a walk, the pups encountered a tiny creature crying for help—and immediately sprang into action.
“Tang and Cream suddenly stopped and seemed confused,” Hearn told The Dodo. “You could hear a faint meow in the distance, so they both ran ahead to investigate.”
At first, Hearn couldn’t see where the sound was coming from, but his dogs quickly discovered a tiny kitten, just three to four weeks old, lying in the middle of the road.
The fragile kitten was dirty and malnourished, with no mother in sight. Hearn initially worried that his golden retriever and King Charles cavalier might chase the kitten, but instead, they showed an incredible sense of care.
To his surprise, both dogs immediately began comforting the frightened calico. “Tang started whimpering and lay down beside her,” Hearn recalled. “Cream started licking and cleaning her.”
Realizing he couldn’t leave the helpless kitten behind, Hearn picked her up and brought her home. He and his girlfriend provided a cozy spot for her to rest, along with a much-needed bath and some food. The little kitten had clearly been on her own for some time, but with love and care, she quickly regained her strength.
