A touching photo taken at the sanctuary changed the fate of two inseparable dogs.
Dogs are pack animals, which is why they form such strong attachments to people. However, sometimes they develop deep bonds with other dogs as well.
This often happens when dogs share a home, but it can also occur in a shelter setting.
Apollo and Adonis are a perfect example of “bonded dogs.”
Faced with an uncertain future, the two brothers clung to each other tightly as their owner surrendered them. It was as if they sensed they were being placed in one of Texas’ high-kill shelters.
When Cindy Droogmans, the founder of A-Team Elite Rescue Dogs, a Long Island-based organization, first saw them, they were so terrified that they were trembling.
Fortunately, thanks to Droogmans and her rescue team, Adonis and Apollo didn’t have to stay in that frightening place for long.
After bringing them to a veterinarian in Huntington, New York, Droogmans discovered the heartbreaking reason their owner had abandoned them.
“They were probably dumped because they tested positive for heartworm, like many dogs in Texas,” Droogmans explained. “They are now undergoing full treatment.”
Despite their hardships, these two precious friends remained inseparable, always cuddling and holding onto each other for comfort. Normally, Droogmans would find separate homes for each rescue dog, but these bonded brothers were a special case.
