Putol, a resilient six-year-old dog, was born without her hind legs. However, she never let this stop her from living life to the fullest. Thanks to the love and dedication of her owner, Danilo Codilego Jr., she has mastered the art of balancing on her front paws and now dashes through the streets with enthusiasm.
A Name That Tells a Story
In the Tagalog language of Luzon, Philippines, “Putol” translates to “chopped”—a name that may seem both endearing and a little unfortunate. But despite her name, Putol’s spirit remains unbreakable, and she is now a beloved presence in the Casiguran neighborhood of Quezon City. She runs alongside other dogs, explores the streets, and wins the hearts of locals with her courage and zest for life.
From Rejection to Belonging
Danilo, a truck driver, recalls the day he met Putol:
“We met six years ago when I was working at a bakery. A coworker brought in four puppies, trying to sell them for 5,000 pesos (£115/$151) each. The others were quickly sold, but no one wanted Putol because of her condition.”
Many doubted she would survive long. But Danilo saw something special in her and decided to take a chance.
“I was the only one willing to care for her. We felt sorry for her and wanted to give her a chance.”
A Fighter’s Journey
For the first two years of her life, Putol struggled to walk. But with determination and practice, she eventually learned to balance and move on just her front legs. Now, she confidently patrols the area, acting as a loyal guard dog to her owner.
“She barks when strangers approach,” Danilo shares. “She even gets jealous when I pay attention to other dogs. But she is gentle and well-loved by everyone in the neighborhood.”
Putol’s resilience and playful nature have made her a local celebrity. When Danilo is away for work, the community comes together to care for her, ensuring she is never alone.
Living Life Without Limits
Despite her physical challenges, Putol doesn’t let anything slow her down. She enjoys the same food as her human companions and lives a happy, active life.
While she cannot have puppies due to her condition, it’s safe to say that motherhood is the last thing on her mind—she’s far too busy embracing every moment of joy and adventure.
