A Compassionate Journey: Man Travels Across Mexico on a Tricycle, Rescuing Homeless Dogs

Aboard a humble cargo tricycle, Edgardo Zúñiga journeys across Mexico, dedicating his life to rescuing abandoned dogs and raising awareness about animal welfare. His selfless mission began on July 17, 2013, and since then, he has traversed half the country in search of homeless dogs wandering the streets and highways.

Currently, Edgardo finds himself in the state of Chiapas, located on Mexico’s southeastern border with Guatemala. Accompanied by 14 loyal dogs he has rescued along the way, his journey continues to inspire compassion and kindness.

Wearing clothes generously donated by kind-hearted strangers, Edgardo presses forward day and night with one goal in mind: to provide a better life for these animals, many of whom have suffered neglect and mistreatment. At 48 years old, hailing from the state of Nayarit in western Mexico, he sees his mission not only as a sacrifice but also as a powerful message to society about the importance of caring for all living beings.

Since the start of his journey, Edgardo—fondly known as “the dog guy”—has rescued over 400 dogs across various states, including Nayarit, Sinaloa, Sonora, Baja California, Chihuahua, Veracruz, and many more. His tricycle, loaded with food, water, clothing, and supplies, allows him to endure challenging weather conditions as he continues his mission. He also carries essential remedies to care for his canine companions, ensuring they remain healthy and strong.

Edgardo’s next destination is Puerto Madero, a coastal town in Chiapas, where he plans to rest for a few days and allow his furry friends some much-needed relaxation. Despite the hardships of the road, he remains unwavering in his commitment to bringing awareness to the plight of stray dogs and encouraging others to take action.

For Edgardo, this journey is more than just about saving dogs—it’s about changing hearts and minds. As he continues traveling south through Oaxaca and Guerrero, his story serves as a beacon of hope and a reminder of the profound impact that one person’s compassion can have on the world.
