Jardin des Plantes, one of the ten main parks in Nantes, France, is a breathtaking seven-hectare botanical garden. Home to approximately 10,000 plant species and 5,000 varieties of flowers, the park is a haven for nature lovers. In addition to its towering greenhouses and remarkable statues, the garden attracts countless visitors by hosting annual exhibitions that showcase the creativity of talented local artists. Among these stunning artistic displays is a whimsical topiary sculpture of sleeping baby birds.
Poussin Endormi, which means “sleepy chick”, is a charming installation that features an enormous baby bird peacefully napping in the heart of the lush garden. This delightful creation was designed by Claude Ponti, a renowned French children’s book author and artist, as part of the garden’s 2014 exhibit.
The sculpture is crafted with intricate detail, complete with delicate bamboo legs and a vibrant yellow beak. However, the most enchanting feature is undoubtedly the chick’s drowsy eyelids, beautifully outlined with delicate lashes, giving it an irresistibly cute expression.
