A Maryland family was enjoying a peaceful picnic when they received an unexpected guest from the forest. What started as an ordinary meal quickly turned into a nerve-wracking yet unforgettable experience when a giant black bear suddenly appeared, seemingly claiming its share of the food.
Kaitlyn Nesbit and her family were gathered around the table when the bear emerged from the woods. To their astonishment, the bear wasn’t aggressive or threatening—it was simply drawn by the enticing aroma of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Instead of acting aggressively, the bear patiently waited at the table, as if hoping to be offered a treat.
While some family members seized the opportunity to capture the surreal moment on camera, those sitting at the table tried their best to remain calm and avoid making any sudden movements. Recalling the encounter, Kaitlyn shared, “We were all told to stay still and not make any sudden moves.”
After enjoying a few sandwiches, the bear peacefully retreated back into the forest, leaving the family relieved and unharmed. However, despite their safe escape, the incident sparked criticism on social media. Many pointed out that feeding bears is illegal in Maryland, as it disrupts their natural behavior and can lead to dangerous human-wildlife interactions.
“DON’T FEED IT!” was a common response online, warning against feeding wild animals. While such encounters may seem fascinating, they ultimately do more harm than good, as they encourage wildlife to associate humans with food, which can lead to risky situations in the future.
